2 DECO CRYSTAL ICE PLATES
RIBBED ON UNDERSIDE

These 2 plates have been decorated differently but I am sure they started life together and were part of an intentional "Harlequin Set". Both are made from very fine blown crystal and when tapped have a ring that I can only describe as a metalic "Tink". I have seen similar crystal made by the firm of John Walsh Walsh and Whitefriars although no doubt other makers produced such items. The plates are a similar size at just under 26 cm diameter and they both have a central circular polished area on the underside where the pontil mark has been polished out. They both have a wave rim, one more so than the other. Both have fine ribbed decoration on the underside although again one has more ribbing than the other.

I believe this type of Art Deco glass was made in the 1920s so they could just be antique in the strict sense of the word at over 100 years old. Almost certainly made in the UK.

Happy to answer any questions or provide more photographs. The plates can be collected from Langford in North Somerset.
