STUART CRYSTAL BEER TANKARD

Stuart Crystal, based near Stourbridge, was one of Britain's best glassmakers. This mid 20th century, half pint tankard was hand blown and decorated to celebrate Britain's most famous prime minister, Sir Winston Churchill. The front is etched with a portrait of Sir Winston within a "V" border. Below the portrait is the legend "GRIM & GAY". On the reverse are 2 fighter aircraft in flight. I must admit I cannot say whether they are Spitfires or Hurricanes. In any event, either would be entirely appropriate. The central area of the base has been ground out and polished to remove the pontil scar. The underside of the base has been acid etched with the Stuart mark at maker's mark just below the applied handle. Sorry that it is not very clear in the last photo. At the opposite side of the base the word "COPYRIGHT" has also been etched. This can be seen clearly at 11 o'clock on the last photo.

A must-have for any Churchill enthusiast. Not only does a decent glass enhance the drinking experience but it gives you a chance to raise a silent toast to the man who arguably did more than anyone to lead Britain through the Second World War.

Happy to answer any questions or provide more photos. It can be collected from Langford in North Somerset.
