This is a ‘35 year old,
Classic Mini' which
has been 'off the road' for some time and is offered here as shown in the
images and described in text as an ongoing 'RESTORATION PROJECT' or for
spares or repairs.
The Mayfair was one of the limited
edition ‘London Collection’ others being the ‘Park Lane’, ‘Piccadilly’,
‘Chelsea’ and the ‘Ritz’ etc.
The V5c confirms this is a Mini limited
edition Mayfair with 998cc manual transmission.
Registered in my name on the V5c, currently
on SORN
The Mayfair will always
be relatively rare as part of the Mini heritage and well worth the time taken to
restore to its former condition.
In terms of previous restoration, having been
removed from the road some years ago by a former Mini enthusiast owner, a
start had been made to restore this Mini. It appears to have had
replacement front wings, front panel, inner wings and rear valance.
Sills,floors and subframes all appear sound. Roof is good, rear panels and
side window appertures are good.
Engine is complete as shown, oil is clean, starter
motor, fuel pump, alternator, carb’, distributor, clutch slave cylinder
all present.
As can happen, ‘life then got in the way’ of the
restoration and the car has been left for a number of years, in dry storage
awaiting completion. It had been etch primed which has served to protect
the bodywork from further deterioration.
The car is offered as a ‘rolling shell’ with
drivetrain, steering and engine fitted. It rolls and steers freely for
loading and movement. Most of the major components are included, including
the front wiring loom, doors, all glass and seats.
Further work is now clearly
required to make speedy progress on this car but as this has not been
started, a ‘new owner’ can undertake the refurbishment to their own
desired standard, timescale and budget.
The vehicle is offered with
all its faults visible, as a restoration project or for parts - you
must decide whether its right for you, please consider this carefully
before making any contact.
Remember this
is a restoration project - do not expect to have it completed in a couple
of weekends or to drive or 'tow' it away.
This is quite clearly not a
nicely painted or prepared car, experience suggests that whilst 'Minis'
previously 'restored' with glossy paintwork may look nice - but can often
conceal a multitude of issues - how many times have you read in listings
"a bit of bubbling in the paint" in reality, corrosion beneath
the glossy paintwork - to rectify, that glossy paintwork will most
certainly be compromised!
WYSIWYG, if it
is not shown or specifically mentioned in the description it is not
included. Classic Mini used and new parts are plentiful, reasonably priced
with 'old school' engineering and no computers!
Ideal as a 'Spring/Summer project' for a Mini enthusiast or
'Son/Daughter/Dad' restoration.
