Up for bid is an unusual Water Worn Calcite specimen from a location near Yuha Buttes in Imperial County, California. The Calcite fluoresce Dim Orange under SW, MW and LW UV but is best under MW. These specimens need a strong MW UV source to bring out the fluorescent color. (of course they are great daylight specimens as well!) Pictures were taken with a high intensity Midwave LED Convoy flashlight.

This specimen was collected on October 29, 2022 from a location just north of the border off Dunaway Road exit (I-8). The locality is an ancient sand bar, once underwater, with abundant oyster fossils. A BLM plaque dates the ancient sea to 6 Mya.

This particular specimen was found at the bottom of the sandbar so it is assumed the smooth surface comes from stream tumbling. Other specimens from this location (sold in separate auctions) were collected from the tops of the sand bars, with significant wind exposure. The wind caused groves to be worn in the specimens. These are called Ventifacts.

Domestic Shipping
For domestic shipping I generally use Fed Exp Ground for heavier and more expensive items, and US Postal Service Priority Mail for lighter and less expensive items. Both services have door to door tracking and full insurance. If you have a shipping preference please let me know. If the shipping service I use costs less than eBay charges, I will refund any excess. I only charge actual shipping costs with no extra charges for packing or shipping materials and will gladly combine shipments. If the combined shipping doesn’t work for some reason, I will refund any excess shipping.

International Shipping
I use US Postal Service Priority mail for all international shipments. Please note that due to a lack of international flights, many overseas shipments are going by boat instead of air. This can add a month or more to delivery times. Purchase at your own risk.
