Up for bid is rare specimen of Halite (Sodium Chloride) on Sagebrush from the Salton Sea area in California. It fluoresce bright Orange under Shortwave and Midwave UV Light. Halite from the Salton Sea typically does not fluoresce, but many years ago there was a hydrothermal well that blew out in the Salton Sea area. This brought up salt water from the depths that had the right impurities to cause fluorescence. When this water evaporated it produced these rare fluorescent Halite crystals. Occasionally the crystals formed on sagebrush branches that were immersed in this mineral rich water. You can clearly see the sagebrush branch in this specimen. The area where these crystals formed has been bulldozed over long ago so no more of this material can be found. This is from an old mineral collection.

Please note that Halite is sensitive to moisture. I live in southern California (yes it rains here over the winter) and have had zero problems with these specimens even after 15+ years in storage. If you live in a very humid climate you might want to store this in an air tight container. The most important thing is to NOT store Halite in paper or cardboard. These materials will absorb moisture from the air and dissolve the Halite.

Domestic Shipping
For domestic shipping I generally use Fed Exp Ground for heavier and more expensive items, and US Postal Service Priority Mail for lighter and less expensive items. Both services have door to door tracking and full insurance. If you have a shipping preference please let me know. If the shipping service I use costs less than eBay charges, I will refund any excess. I only charge actual shipping costs with no extra charges for packing or shipping materials and will gladly combine shipments. If the combined shipping doesn’t work for some reason, I will refund any excess shipping.

International Shipping
I use US Postal Service Priority mail for all international shipments. Please note that due to a lack of international flights, many overseas shipments are going by boat instead of air. This can add a month or more to delivery times. Purchase at your own risk.
