PLEASE NOTE - THIS ITEM IS A SIMPLE PLUG....I.E. - IT'S A SOLID PIECE OF METAL (SCREWED IN PLACE OF A FUSE) FOR THE SAFE TRANSIT OF ARTILLERY SHELLS. (THEREFORE, IT HAS NEVER BEEN DANGEROUS, AND IT STILL ISN'T !!)

From a practical perspective, the beauty of transit plugs was that they were re-usable, so once the fuses had been installed, the plugs were collected and shipped back to Britain. Therefore, they are much rarer to find on the Battlefield than the fuses themselves which are still unearthed in their thousands to this day. This one comes from a small collection of several variations sourced on the Somme.

Made from solid brass with a high copper content, and bearing an inspection arrow for the INDIAN ARMY.

Measures 6cm x 2.5cm.

Weighs almost 0.3kg unpackaged.
