Charming ashtray of MCM origin, there are pieces similar to this out on the market, but this is the only American made one with a small pipe in it.  The ceramic pipe is reminiscent of old British primitive pipes.  There is a face of a man on each side and each side is photographed.  He wears a crown.  The interior is hollow and the bottom is numbered 4023.  This could be a paint your own pottery piece from long ago.  This came from an old estate sale in Northern WV in a home full of antique Fenton glass oil lamps, so I would date it mid-century or before.
