Initially tested and both DVD and VHS side worked. However sold to a buyer and for them the DVD player would not read. Returned and I had the same problem - I then pushed one of the visible interior belts while the tray was open and after that the DVD was readable again. But I cannot guarantee this will keep working! So please keep in mind when purchasing that the DVD side seems finicky at bests
