This auction is for a copy on C/D ROM of an original Specification Brochure, Owner's Manual, and Technical Manual with drawings for a Rodgers Model 990 3-Manual Organ. The date on this manual is August, 1970.
This instrument, considered by many to be one of Rodger's best, was designed and built by engineers from the famed Tektronix operation in Hillsboro, Oregon. Unlike many modern digital organs, and lesser organs of the period, this instrument was designed for easy repair and maintenance. Huge panels of printed circuit cards fold out from the back, and all parts of it are easy to access. Unlike many 'modern' organs this one is easily repairable with readily available parts. And it was not cheaply built, only high quality parts were used.
The Specification Brochure clearly outlines all the stops on the organs, the features and functions, and how the instrument functions. This four page brochure is quite complete in its description.
The Owner's Manual describes the voice families of the organ, the speaking stops of the organ, and the couplers, percussions, tremulations, console accessories and non-speaking stops. Instructions on their use and application is included. There are also pages with suggested registrations for each division of the organ. The are some additional design elements explained, as well as user care and maintenance of the instrument.
The Technical Manual for the 990 is a magnificent document. It contains the general description and installation notes, disassembly instructions, general terminology, organ check-out procedure, a 26 page guide to voicing the instrument, and a simplified method for voicing the instrument. The technical section of the manual contains a general description, a one note block diagram, drawings for the coupler system, and circuit descriptions for all the various stops and functions of the instrument. There are eight pages of annotated photographs showing the various PC cards, and the locations of adjustment controls on them identified with circuit numbers, i.e. R 91.
There is a section describing thew devices operated by the voice stops and a simplified diagram and explanation of the Rodgers coupler system. There is a complete section on the Rodgers Computer Capture Combination Action, which includes diagrams, operational principles, and field trouble shooting guide. Finally, there are 30 pages of full page schmatics of the various sections and PC boards within the instrument. These are annotated with typical voltages, and troubleshooting tips. They also contain oscilloscope waveforms showing the signal at various points on the boards. Frankly, this is one of the best manuals I've ever seen ... for any piece of electronics.
