Comments

Balboa was a Spaniard, first European who crossed the Isthmus, reached the Pacific by land and discovered the Perlas Archipelago (1513). The 9 stars represent the 9 provinces of the country at that time (there are now 10).

Since its separation from Colombia in 1903, Panama has used the United States Dollar. These coins have the same specifications as the United States Dime and circulated alongside it.

Variants: Type I thick flan with diamonds on both sides of the "DE" of value, was minted in London; Type II, thin flan, elongated diamonds, was minted in San Francisco. There is a third type with thick flan and lines around the "DE":

According to the Royal British Mint, there over 1.6 million 1967 dated coins were minted for circulation. The ultimate fate of these coins is currently unknown.

For the 1970 circulation coins, 1,380,000 were minted in 1970 and 6,120,000 were minted in 1971.
For the 1980 dated coins, 2,000,000 were minted in 1979 and 2,000,000 were minted in 1980.
