DESCRIPTION: From the brief description at The Hardy Boys Online:

"While working at an experimental farm, the boys investigate the disappearance of valuable silkworms and the theft of government building materials."

This is the original version of The Flickering Torch Mystery, which was ghostwritten by Leslie McFarlane, who wrote many of the original Hardy Boys stories from 1927 onward. It was later completely revised, in 1971. Dating to roughly 1947 is based on internal evidence (an advert for The Rocket's Shadow, the first Rick Briant Electronic Adventure, which was published in that year).

CONDITION: Hardcover bound in brown buckram, missing dustjacket (as is often the case with this generation of Hardy Boys novels). Orange duo-tone endpapers with one continuous picture. Light wear at extremities, some mild foxing, and pages 130-31 have a faint purple stain on them from the ribbon that was used as a bookmark there (ribbon included :) ). Binding solid, a good reading copy of this early, unrevised story.

NOTES ON EDITIONS: I use a number of resources to attempt to determine the edition of the book that I am listing. My most frequently referenced resource is Zempel and Verkler's "First Editions: A Guide to Identification," although I sometimes use other internet sources and make comparisons with listings I find on various internet sites. Errors, if any, remain my own.

Making an offer within the pre-determined range will result in your offer being immediately accepted. A few items also have levels below which offers will be declined. ALL offers are reviewed, and reasonable offers are always considered (although it being my business, I am the one who defines "reasonable"). If you have a question about making an offer on an item, do drop me a line.
