Wonderful watercolor / gouache portrait on paper of a seated man in court dress with a mandarin square on his blue robe.  Panel depicts a silver crane or pheasant, identifying him as a fifth rank civil official.  Seated on a rug with foo dog images. Matted with a gilt painted silk mat.  Laid down on a foamcore back board.  

CONDITION

Overall excellent.  Some mild toning commensurate with age.  Colors bright with no paint loss.  A VERY IMPRESSIVE 19TH CENTURY CHINESE ANCESTRAL PAINTING.
