WHO YOU GONNA CALL?

The Ghostbusters saga has been thrilling fans around the world for over three decades, from the original movies to the animated shows, comics, video games, toys, and other collectibles. For the first time, Ghostbusters: The Ultimate Visual History takes a comprehensive look at the entire franchise, telling the complete story behind the creation of a true pop culture phenomenon. Beginning with an in-depth look at the original film, Ghostbusters: The Ultimate Visual History delves into the archives to showcase a wealth of never-before-seen concept art and photography that will take fans into the production of a true classic.

Also featuring a large section on Ghostbusters II, the book brings together exclusive interviews with the key players from both films, including director Ivan Reitman; stars Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver; and producers Michael C. Gross and Joe Medjuck.

The book also explores the creation of The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters animated shows, featuring interviews with the writers, animators, and voice artists, plus previously unseen sketches, animation cels, and other stunning visuals. With additional sections on Ghostbusters comics, video games, merchandise, and fandom, Ghostbusters: The Ultimate Visual History is the last word on one of the most popular franchises of all time.

-Peter Venkman’s business card
-Sedgewick Hotel storyboard booklet

"Ghostbusters: The Ultimate Visual History is one of the most lavish art books I have ever seen, rich with content, first class production values and beautifully designed. A must own!"
--Michael C. Gross, Producer, Ghostbusters/Ghostbusters II

"Ghostbusters: The Ultimate Visual History is a terrific backwards look at how a silly 1984 comedy was, to quote Dan Aykroyd’s foreword, 'visually enlivened' into legend... With full access to the Ghostbusters archives, which we assume are guarded by Terror Dogs, this is a chronicle filled with revelations."
--Nick De Semlyen, Empire Online

Make no mistake, this book is an excellent compendium to the Ghostbusters universe. It is a treasure trove of information. Initially, when I pre-ordered, I was under the assumption it would cover primarily the first movie. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have yet to sit down and read it (it's over 200 pages and hard bound) but here is what you can expect:

1. Foreward by Dan Akroyd/Introduction by Ivan Reitman.
2. Complete overview of the original (original sketches/concept art of the baddies, storyboards, film shots you've never seen before, matte paintings, Ecto 1 illustrations., creature costumes and makeup, movie posters
3. Complete overview of the sequel (more of what you would expect in part except a lot more story book art and schematics).
4. Overview of the Real Ghostbusters, Extreme Ghostbusters, Ghostbuster Video Games, Ghostbuster Comics, Ghostbuster Merchandise

This is enough to make any hard core fan happy.

Scattered throughout the book are film cells, business cards, sketches and artwork, storyboards, etc.

The book contains sketches, production photos, memorabilia and rich descriptions of the franchise Ghostbusters (films, animated series, videogames, etc.). A real “delicacy” for fans of a film that, 37 years after the release, continues to arouse emotions and generate new gadgets for fans.

I ain't 'fraid of no ghost!

Following Harold Ramis's death in 2014, Reitman determined the creative control shared by himself, Ramis, Aykroyd, and Murray was holding the franchise back and negotiated a deal to sell the rights to Columbia; he spent two weeks convincing Murray. Reitman refused to detail the deal but said "the creators would be enriched for the rest of our lives, and for the rest of our children's lives". He and Aykroyd founded Ghost Corps, a production company dedicated to expanding the franchise, starting with the 2016 female-led reboot Ghostbusters (later retitled Ghostbusters: Answer the Call.) Before its release, Ghostbusters was beset by controversies. After its release, it was considered a box-office bomb with mixed reviews. A second sequel to the 1984 film, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, directed by Reitman's son Jason, was released in November 2021.
