In the literay world Hopalong Cassidy the iconic cowboy hero, was created by author Clarence E. Mulford in 1904. He was in sixity six films fsrom 1935 to 1948.  Cassidy was a clean cut sarsaparilla drinking hero who never shot first.  He also stared in children's radio and TV series which lasted until 1952.
