This listing is for a Japanese Ichimatsu Gofun festival doll, circa 1925. She has a soft padded body with flexible joints at arms and thighs. She has her original paper underwrap. Her head is expertly moulded from a composition material, brown inset glass eyes fixed and then the entire head is covered in tinted Gofun. Her eyebrows and lips are hand painted. The ancient Gofun, marble like finish is crated from ingredients that contains rice glue and ground oyster-shells. It is built up in many thin layers and finally buffed repeatedly to obtain the smoothest pale surface which is so distinctive of these dolls. She has black human hair and her outfit is superbly original. She wears a mutli patterned silk crepe Kimono with long padded sleeves. She has her original cord tied obi sash. To the rear is her large butterfly bow. She has gofun covered hands and feet. She is in gently used, has a smudge on her cheek; and she is not pristine. She has a nip to her nose which may have occurred during production, and a bruised forefinger. The stand is solid and sturdy and has a paint drip. She measures approximately 17” high.
