Abstract: A collection of recipes and an eating guide are presented for 2
specific groups of people who need extra potassium in their diets:
those taking certain medications such as diuretics, and those who are
active sports enthusiasts. The body's needs for potassium are described
and related to the sodium-potassium balance. Other features include
sample menus, lists of potassium-rich foods (of varying sodium content),
hints for salt and cholesterol control, and notes for blood pressure
watchers. Recipes for all sorts of dishes, from appetizers to desserts,
stress good sources of potassium, (e.g., mushrooms, yoghurt, fresh
bananas and melons, potatoes, broccoli, and beans).
