Available for immediate purchase is this new, vintage, February 1984 CONFIRMED, made in France, guaranteed original and authentic (Batch Number: CC2A; pre-UPC), Magie noire huile parfum (bath perfume or perfumed bath oil) splash in a dainty 0.25-ounce (1/4 ounce or 7.5ml) size by Lancôme, Division of Cosmair Inc. This product can be used as a traditional perfume at the pulse points. A little goes a long way. All photos were taken at 40x magnification to best confirm item condition. The buyer will receive the exact item pictured.

Please note: many sellers are unaware which formulation of Magie noire they have and erroneously list their products as original, old formula, and/or vintage when they clearly are not. Also, be mindful that some sellers simply copy item details (or generate inaccurate AI content) using another listing without having any actual knowledge of manufacture decade or year. Always ensure that the seller provides a clear photo of the batch number prior to making any fragrance purchase to ensure you are actually receiving what was advertised within the listing. Generally speaking, legitimate, knowledgeable fragrance sellers will include a batch number photo within their listings. Finally, upon receipt of your fragrance item, always be sure to compare the batch number on the bottle you receive with the photo from the original listing. This will provide you with a quick, final confirmation and reassurance that you received exactly what was listed.

A Brief Primer to Assist with Dating
Lancôme Products:
If the product features the wording “MAGIE NOIRE” in all caps, versus the lowercase, “Magie noire” then the product was made after 1986. Many sellers attribute the “1986” printed on the boxes as meaning the contents were manufactured in 1986 which is incorrect. This date only refers to the year the new packaging design was copyrighted. Equally, this is why the original 1978 packaging design (two-tone rounded gold/butterscotch/rust detailing on black) states 1978; as that is the copyright date of the packaging, not the year of manufacture, which can only be ascertained by the batch number and bottle style.

In addition, if the box (if included) has a bar code, the product dates to 1990+. If there is a green dot (double arrows) recycle symbol present, the product dates to 1992 at the earliest. If the product dates to after 2005, then the box will feature a long list of ingredients and the bottle/box may contain one or more of the following: a PAO (period-after-opening) symbol which looks like an open cosmetic pot, a flame symbol, and/or a refer-to-insert symbol which denotes a hand pointing to a booklet. It may also include a green dot symbol (described above). None of these products are original formulation or vintage yet they are commonly listed as such. Be cognizant of the formulation actually being purchased as a highly reformulated Magie noire remains in current production. This packaging features an all caps “MAGIE NOIRE” with the “A” in “MAGIE” and the “O” in “NOIRE” printed in a larger font than the other letters.

The item in this listing can be confirmed as being manufactured in February of 1984 based on the batch number: CC2A. The first letter, "C" indicates where the product was physically manufactured and can be disregarded for dating purposes. The second letter from the left, "C" refers to the manufacture year of 1984. For products made from 1978 to 1986, the third digit, "2" refers to the month in which the contents were produced. Thus, this product is from February of 1984. However, keep in mind, beginning in 1987, the third digit refers to the day of the year (out of 365 days) in which the contents were produced.

Launched in
1978, Magie noire (black magic) is classified as an oriental chypre scent; however, its unique composition does not follow the traditional top note, middle note, base note development. Instead, it resembles a figure eight; opening and revealing its character, then moving in the opposite direction and, finally, curving back to where it started – circulating from green and earthy fruity notes to those that are more animalic in nature. Fragrance notes include oakmoss, patchouli, Bulgarian rose, black currant buds, jasmine, tuberose, honey, ylang-ylang, lily of the valley, amber, natural musk, civet, and incense.

Return Policy
My goal is for you to be pleased with your experience. Please contact me via eBay’s messaging system and I will take proper care of you. To qualify for a full refund, the seller must receive the returned item in the exact condition in which the seller originally sent the item. Returns with usage, damage, or leakage caused by the buyer (i.e., ruined boxes and/or labels; broken or tampered-with cording, stoppers, and/or seals) do not qualify for a full refund. In the extremely rare instance where the seller has reason to believe the original contents were either altered or removed/replaced by the buyer then no refund will be provided. Buyers who abuse the return policy or falsify item condition will be blocked from future transactions and reported to eBay.
