Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

This is a 2nd generation (1960's era) Electro Voice 664 dynamic cardioid microphone. This piece has been thoroughly cleaned and turned into a high quality LED mic lamp. Often referred to as "The Buchanon Hammer" salesman would demonstrate it's toughness and reliability by pounding nails into a piece wood with the mic then hooking it up to show that it would still work without issue. This microphone was not used as a hammer obviously and shows almost no cosmetic wear.

Pic # 2 shows the earlier 1st gen 664 from the early 1950's. The design changed just slightly in the 1960's but had the same overall size and shape.

The 664 was a revolutionary mic being tough, reliable, great sounding and one of E.V's most famous models. The microphone was made for almost 30 years and changed twice. About every 10 years but again, this is the 2nd generation 664.

I should start by letting you know that this mic lamp is made by a gentleman in Canada named Gord D Birtch who is a Jack of all Trades. An artist and all around good guy with an eye for these older mics. He currently has an online store called Luminous Groove. I have several of his lamps at my residence and have been collecting them for almost a year. I send him the microphones and he turns them into this finished product.

All of the mics are gutted, cleaned and professionally wired with high quality, efficient American L.E.D lights. Gord will often install metal mesh screen in his mics. Some do not have them but it really comes down to how the mic is designed and how we want the light to be thrown. This 664 already has it's original screens so nothing was added or taken away.

This 664 casts an amazing ambiance once activated as you can see in the pictures provided.   This will make an excellent accent piece anywhere in the home, studio or office and this mic lamp will screw onto any microphone desk or floor stand. I do have several vintage stands available in my Ebay store however.

If you'd like to contact Gord directly please feel free to do so. I'm just trying to get his name and recognition out there. His work is top notch. Again, I have several of his pieces in my residence and everybody who comes over absolutely loves them.

The polished chrome body on this 664 is in very nice overall shape as seen in the pictures provided with an absolute minimum of cosmetic wear. Just very lite scratches here and there but otherwise a real gem. The mic is free of any dents or fractures as well. The front screens are free of tarnish or dents and the joint mechanism works perfectly allowing you to tilt the mic up and down directing the light as needed. The screens cast unique patterns of light due to their unique design. You can read a book by this light if needed but almost makes a better night light.

A cable connector is attached to the mic as it would be naturally completing the effect of the mic.

The cable itself is cloth covered and has an older vintage feel to it. It's appx 9 feet in length and has an on / off switch as you can see in pic # 11. Simply plug this in and your good to go. I believe these LED's are rated at 50,000 hours.

This in actual E.V 664 mic. Not a replica. I can't talk these lamps up enough. One of the coolest lamps you could own and perfect for that mid century vibe and an excellent gift for just about anybody.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
