Description
In 2023, TAT-SpecialFM has further evolved as Caparison's highest design.
The body back material is Australian blackwood instead of mahogany to improve sound quality. Jescar stainless steel jumbo frets are used for the frets, achieving a fast-starting sound. The pickup is a direct mount Caparison PH-Rm pickup on the bridge side, faithfully reproducing the sound of the TAT-Special body structure. The neck pickup is equipped with the renewed Caparison SH-27FC, a pickup specifically designed for the 27th fret model, so you can get the sound typical of a neck pickup even when installed at the 27th fret. The matte finish on the back of the neck has been extended all the way to the border with the body, eliminating the difference in feel between the glossy finish on the body and the matte finish on the neck. The new body colors are Moonlight, AquaBurst, and RoseBurst, which make use of the wood grain of carefully selected flame maple. In addition, by giving the body sides and back a natural finish, you can enjoy the TAT-Special's unique curved top shape, maple-walnut 5-piece neck-through construction, and the beautiful grain of Australian blackwood.
Basic design of TAT-SpecialFM
The design of the TAT-SpecialFM is an original model that uses flame maple material not just for its appearance, but as a wing material on both sides of the neck-through structure. In order to achieve a wider tonal range and attractive long sustain, we used carefully selected flame maple wood with a thickness of approximately 18mm for the top of the body, and adopted Australian blackwood as a new back material. For the neck, we used a 5-piece maple-walnut neck to maintain a balance of strength, stability, and overall sound quality. This body structure uses TAT-Special's unique TAT curve top to achieve a new level of playability without sacrificing sound quality. The control is equipped with Caparison's original control "Rotary Switch Mode" which is very practical and simple. "Rotary Switch Mode" is activated when the pickup selector switch is in the center position and allows you to select from 4 types of pickup combinations.

About AustralianBlackwood. Australian blackwood is said to be a material similar to koa wood. It is also known as Tasmanian Blackwood. It may be better to use it as a material for acoustic guitars. It all started when I had the opportunity to experiment with different materials, and one of them was Australian blackwood. When I tapped the board, I felt intuitively that it looked good. For a long time, I was looking for a material to replace mahogany. Mahogany has been used as a material for guitars for many years, but it lacked stability when it came to the guitars I was designing. As a result, there were many cases where the sound quality was not as expected. For a long time we were looking for a material that was better (to us) than mahogany. The material I finally found was Australian blackwood. I think it is better suited for musical instruments than mahogany. The range of the sound is wide, the balance is good, and the rise of the sound is excellent. It is more suitable than mahogany for the guitars I design. Itaru Kanno
