Overview: Original Antique Postcard of a Lakota Sioux
Native American Indian woman working on a project. I originally thought that she was making fire
by twirling a stick on a wooden platform, however I know that the Lakota people
started fires using flint and steel to generate a spark. Instead, I think this woman may be drillings
a hole to plant seeds. The image was
photographed by J.A. Anderson, John Alvin Anderson (1869 - 1948), a
Swedish-American Photographer known for photographing Sioux Indians at the
Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota from 1885 to the 1930's. The photograph was taken in c.1910 and the
postcard will date around 1912.
