Sin after Sin is the third studio effort by British Heavy Metal band Judas Priest released in 1977. Sin After Sin was their major label debut. The band wanted to produce the album themselves but CBS insisted that they bring in seasoned producer Roger Glover from Deep Purple. Glover suggested that they do the Joan Baez song Diamonds and Rust for commercial appeal. They had previously recorded it for Gull Records and it had seen limited release. The song has become a beloved classic and got them radio play early on. It has also been reported that Joan Baez herself enjoyed the version of their song.

Sin After Sin is a transitional album in the Judas Priest catalogue. Their early blues sound has been tamed and British Metal was unleashed. Judas Priest had become increasingly dissatisfied with their record label of that time (Gull Records) and their Sad Wings Of Destiny album caught the attention of CBS who offered them a deal which allowed them the opportunity to move in a new direction. They fired their drummer Alan Moore and brought in Simon Phillips for the recording sessions of Sin After Sin. Simon Phillips was also offered the job of touring with them, but he had prior commitments. Glover suggested drummer Les Binks from Fancy and he joined them for the Sin After Sin tour. Les Binks is a technical drummer who could play all the intricate parts that Simon Phillips had done in the studio.

Sin After Sin introduced the combination of the double bass drumming and rapid sixteenth-note bass rhythms combined with rapid sixteenth-note guitar rhythms that would come to define heavy metal in later years, particularly the thrash metal sub-genre which emerged in the 1980s. The track "Dissident Aggressor" was an early example of the tempo and aggression which would soon become synonymous with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
