Headway's Sakura guitar celebrates its 10th anniversary
The beginning of guitars using cherry wood was a single ukulele made in 2014. Headway continues to work with this wood, which has a different quality and sound than conventional imported materials, using its years of guitar-making knowledge and skills. This year, we have finally reached the milestone of our 10th anniversary, and we have completed a special model with the hope of making further progress and spreading our wings around the world.
A special color that represents our love for Sakura guitars.
Based on the Yozakura Black, which has become synonymous with Sakura guitars since its first appearance in 2016, it has been finished in a tasteful coloring suitable for the 10th anniversary. The red-purple gradation that spreads diagonally gives it an elegant look, like cherry blossoms at night illuminated by moonlight.
Crane motif on the head
We designed the motif of a crane for Tenjin, as it symbolizes the spirit of Japan just like cherry blossoms. The cherry blossom model, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, is likened to a crane, a migratory bird, with the hope that it will fly as high as ever and spread its wings all over the world.
Falling cherry blossom fingerboard inlay
Through skillful inlay work using acrylic and wood, cherry blossom leaves and falling cherry blossom petals are beautifully expressed on the fingerboard.
Designs commemorating the 10th anniversary can be seen everywhere
A sound hole cover with a 10th anniversary limited edition design inspired by the wings of a crane covered in cherry blossoms is included. A crane feather is also casually drawn on the pickguard, giving a story to the guitar as a whole.
Domestic wood wild cherry horse chestnut
Yamazakura, a wild cherry tree with a supple heathered grain, is used as the side and back material. Although it has a very hard characteristic and peaks in the low-mid range, it produces a sweet sound unique to cherry wood. The back plate is a three-piece structure made from Japanese horse chestnut, and depicts a group of cranes taking flight.
Adopts the latest structure of ATB series
Adopts ExtraSlimUNeck, which emphasizes thinness and overturns the image of conventional Headway necks. Of course, the stability that is a characteristic of the Headway neck has been taken into account, and the rigidity is increased by the high strength neck specification that includes a carbon bar. The effect of the carbon bar is not only on stability, but also by suppressing unnecessary neck bending and transmitting string vibrations smoothly to the top of the body, improving the expressive power of the high range.
34 Semi-forward shifted bracing
Headway master builder Yasuo Momose researched the bracing of a vintage guitar made in 1934 and inherited the bracing that he developed independently. Semi-forward shift where the X cross position is close to the sound hole, resulting in better bass response and a more voluminous rumble than when new. The design takes into consideration the stability of the top plate by moving it about 5mm closer to the bridge than the forward shift.
