Vintage 1966 Epiphone USA SB722 Olympic I Cherry w/HSC, Kalamazoo, Batwing

Presenting an exceptionally well-maintained vintage 1966 Kalamazoo Factory-made Epiphone Olympic I in a striking Cherry stain finish, accompanied by a rosewood fretboard and "Batwing" 6-in-line headstock. A modern, fitted Epiphone branded hard case is included.

Originally introduced in 1960 as an affordable option akin to Gibson’s Melody Maker, the Olympic underwent a revamp in 1963, bringing it in line with models like the Coronet, Wiltshire, and Crestwood while maintaining its sleek body profile. Offering both single and double pickup configurations, the Maestro vibrato system became standard in 1965. The line was discontinued in 1970.

In terms of originality, this example is nearly entirely original, save for the “E” foil logo decal on the pickguard, which has been carefully replaced to give this Olympic a complete authentic look.

Considering the guitar's age, it's in excellent condition both cosmetically and functionally, devoid of any breaks or repairs. While the clean exterior does show several surface marks and tasteful lacquer checking, these are consistent with an instrument that has been delicately used and well-maintained over the past nearly 60 years.

The neck and fretboard are exceptionally clean, with a smooth, slim-taper profile neck and frets that still have plenty of playtime left in them. All original electronics, including both pots dating back to '66, work seamlessly, and all stock plastics remain unbroken and intact.

The all-original hardware, including the Maestro vibrato and Kluson Deluxe White Button tuners, are fully functional and display minimal tarnishing, still shining brightly. Lastly, the single Melody Maker-style PU380 single-coil pickup offers a unique grit, bite, and chime characteristic of this particular model from the Epiphone catalog, reminiscent of a Telecaster.

This one is a featherweight, weighing in at 6.83lbs.

It’s been expertly cleaned and setup by Ben of Beej Guitar Repairs with a fresh set of 10-46 strings.
