This is a distinctive piece with the ebony wood used for the fingerboard containing a colored part called sap.
Sap is the outer part of the wood, also called white fat, and may or may not be included depending on how the wood is removed.
It's an external feature, so whether you find it attractive or not depends on your sensibilities.
As for the sound, the dry tone produced by the VTS Vintage Tone System stands out, making it a pleasant instrument to play that is sensitive to the nuances of picking.
Model overview
The Modern Deluxe series has recently appeared as a new series from Martin.
As the name suggests, it is an ambitious model that incorporates many new initiatives that were not present in the conventional Martin.
The top material is spruce treated with Vintage Tone System VTS, which is used in the Authentic series. The wood is altered in a high-pitched, high-pressure kiln to recreate the withered sound of a vintage guitar. The bracing material that supports the top material is Adirondack spruce, which has also been treated with VTS.
Waverly gold open back pegs, European Flamed Maple wood binding, pearl inlay head logo and gloss finish headstock, and gold frets made of harder metal than usual.
Carbon material is used for the bridge plate inside the body and behind the bridge, increasing the volume.
A new neck shape has been adopted that is slightly asymmetrical, giving a comfortable grip that feels like pressing down on the 6th string with your thumb.
The bridge pin is made of liquid metal material with a white color and red dots, contributing to high durability and rich harmonic content.
The ModernDeluxe series is a modern evolution of the conventional 000-28.
