Sodegarami is a kind of pole weapon that's considered one of the 江戸Edo period 捕り物Torimono ("catching, arresting") 三つ道具Mitsu-dogu ("the three major items") used by Edo period police force to "safely" control the criminals, as the name implies, it's designed to catch the long sleeves and fabrics in traditional Kimono by the horrifying metal spikes.
