Among the Gibson archtops, the rare model "Kalamazoo Award" is rarely seen on the market. It was manufactured only for a short period of 4 years, from 1978 to 1981, which was the transition period from Kalamazoo Factory to Nashville Factory.
In 1978, the first year of manufacture, high-end archtop models had a mix of 6-digit and 8-digit serials, and this machine is an individual with a 6-digit serial. The craftsman at the time, Wilbur Fuller, held repeated discussions and sound checks with skilled craftsmen, resulting in a finish that stands out from other models of the same generation.
The quality of the wood used for the body and neck is so high that you can tell at a glance that the wood used is of high quality, with beautiful arch shaping, gorgeous flying bird inlays on the head top and pickguard, etc. You can feel the craftsmanship of the time.
Although it has an acoustic sparkle, it has a rich and spacious live sound. Equipped with a floating type pickup, when plugged in, the sound has excellent touch nuance while retaining the natural sound quality. You can enjoy sound that you cannot easily enjoy with other models.
There are some minor scratches due to its age, but considering its age, it is in beautiful condition and shows that it has been treated with care. There is evidence that there was a top crack under the pickguard and that it has been repaired. The neck condition is good, the truss rod has plenty of room to tighten, and there are about 70% of the original frets remaining, and there are no irregularities. There are no replacement parts. A general-purpose hard case is included.
