Almost everyone sets these up incorrectly by putting the skinny end of the L-rod clamp into the drum. This will always slip if you set it up like this.

Always put the fatter L-rod into the drum. It’s a bit fiddly to get it in but once it’s in, there’ll be absolutely no slippage. See last 2 pictures.
