Back in 1996 the NHL introduced the Third Alternate jersey program which eventually turned into the huge marketing success it has become today. However in those early days of non-public feedback and opinion polling the teams went at it alone with their hired design teams and sometimes came up with some truly wacky designs. The New York Rangers were no exception. When the team was busy exploring options the team had come up with variations on what would eventually become arguably one of the most successful third jersey designs of all time, the Lady Liberty. This design was revealed in a pregame report when the Lady Liberty jersey was first used in 1997. In that pre-game segment the design team showed the design process and revealed a few ideas that were floated, including this beauty featuring the Rangers updated shield logo as the front design up front and center and in a huge scale. Reminiscent of those St Louis Blues Trumpet jerseys these were brash and in your face. Very 90s indeed.
This jersey was carefully constructed to follow that design from screen grabs and using modern dye sublimation techniques together with high quality durable construction using the airknit fabric that was used at the time. We also used knit ribbed collars which wont fade when stretched are made just like the original 90s jerseys. Double layered elbow areas and double loop stitching on every seam add the weight and durability of the jersey. The shoulder patch is 3D embroidered like the modern day Prime Green jerseys, with raised edges and letters on the patch. Quality second to none!
