Every year in Australia, livestock producers artificially rear up to one million calves, mainly as heifer replacements for dairy herds. In this book John Moran describes the principles and practices for successful calf rearing. This book highlights the principles of calf growth and feed digestion which allow producers to select the most appropriate system for their farm. Facilities for rearing such as sheds and yards are described while the many diseases that can inflict young calves are explained. The book includes chapters on calf welfare, post weaning management and how calves can communicate with their owners. Another chapter provides costings on feeds, labour and calf losses so that producers can prepare budgets on their own particular rearing system. The final chapter brings all the principles together in the form of ‘Best Management Practices’.

There is some shelf wear overall including some scuffs, marks and scratches.  The book itself is in fair condition. There are marks and some wear to the outer edges. There is some bumping to the top right corner of the book which has left some creasing to some of the pages on this corner. Overall a fair copy with some wear.
