Scarce and very seldom offered as a set, this charming and exquisite Paragon King George V & Queen
Mary 1935 Silver Jubilee Tea Set Trio consists of a Tea Cup & Saucer, Tea
Plate and a Lidded Conserve (Jam) Pot.
The front of the Tea Cup has cameo sepia photographic portraits of King George V and Queen Mary surmounted by a King’s Crown, with a Royal Standard on the left, and a Union Jack on the right, the cameos are surrounded by laurel wreaths and a display of roses, thistles and shamrocks representing the flora of England, Scotland and Ireland, below which is a banner inscription “H.M. King George V H.M. Queen Mary”.
The Tea Cup has a silver edged rim with the exterior rim inscription
“To Commemorate The Silver Jubilee of Their Gracious Reign” on a pale
yellow background. The Cup’s reverse has the dates “1910 – 1935”.
The Cup’s exquisitely designed handle is made up of a sprig
of Thistle, Rose and Shamrock representing the national flora of England,
Scotland & Ireland.
The Cup’s base has a silver band, and the base backstamp
has the ‘By Appointment’ Royal Coat of Arms of Queen Mary, confirming that
Paragon were her personal suppliers of Fine China, along with the inscription
“Souvenir to Commemorate The Silver Jubilee of Their Majesties The King and
Queen”.
The silver rimmed Saucer has an upper banner inscription
“To Commemorate The Silver Jubilee of Their Gracious Reign” on a pale yellow
background. The bottom of the Saucer has the Royal Coat of Arms of King George
V, either side of which are the dates 1910 & 1935. The base backstamp is
the same as that on the Cup.
The silver rimmed Tea Plate has central cameo sepia
photographic portraits of King George V and Queen Mary surmounted by a King’s
Crown, with a Royal Standard on the left, and a Union Jack on the right, the
cameos are surrounded by laurel wreaths and a display of roses, thistles and
shamrocks representing the flora of England, Scotland and Ireland, set above a
banner inscription “H.M. King George V
H.M. Queen Mary”, below which are the Silver Jubilee dates 1910 – 1935.
The base backstamp is the same as that on the Saucer.
The Conserve (Jam) Pot has the same front and reverse
designs as the Tea Cup, with the same base backstamp, with the silver edged lid
having a spoon cut-out, and a top mounted handle in the form of a sprig of
Rose, Thistle and Shamrock.
This superb and exquisite Paragon Tea Set Trio which is seldomly offered as a set, is in excellent undamaged condition with no repairs, chips or cracks, and represents a wonderful opportunity to acquire a superb King George V & Queen Mary 1935 Silver Jubilee souvenir set.
