Model overview
At the request of Ray Whitley, a popular movie actor and musician, to create a loud and gorgeous guitar, the archtop L-5 body mold was used to create the super jumbo body. The gorgeous and luxurious impression gives off an overwhelming presence that is not found in other models, and since its introduction in 1937, it has remained unwaveringly popular and continues to reign at the top. The SJ-200, which attracted many guitarists including Elvis Presley, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Pete Townshend, and Cat Stevens, is now handcrafted at a factory in Bozeman, Montana, USA. .
Painting with nitrocellulose lacquer, a paint that cures slowly and gradually soaks in, the use of a domed top with an arched body surface rather than a completely flat surface, glue adhesive at the neck joint, etc. The traditional manufacturing method is still inherited today.
The top of the super jumbo body, which measures 17 inches wide and is the largest Gibson acoustic guitar, is made of AAA grade Sitka spruce, mainly from Alaska, and the back and sides are made of North American flame maple. The neck material is also 2 piece maple. The same ebony as the Les Paul Custom is used for the bound fingerboard and bridge. The split diamond inlay on the head and the block inlay on the fingerboard are decorated with mother-of-pearl, and the bone nut and saddle are rich and rich in overtones.The pegs are mounted with Grover Rotomatic, which has a reputation for durability and tuning accuracy. Adopts a round neck that is thick and easy to grip.
Another great feature is that L.R.Baggs' Session VTC pickup, which tracks the movement of the top board and faithfully reproduces delicate nuances, is installed from the factory.
