Antique Handel Reverse Painted Floral Shade #6353 Signed RC with Cream Basket Weave Base

The Handel signed lamp shade is flawless and adorned with beautiful flowers and a charming basket weave design on the shade and base. It comes with its original pull socket featuring a lovely acorn pull end, and uses a standard-sized bulb. The base has "Handel" stamped on its underside, while the shade is painted with the number 6353 and the artist's initials, R.C. representing long time esteemed artist Rowena Cheney.

The glass shade is in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, or flea bites. However, the base has some aged paint wear, as shown in the photos. This is an overall lovely boudoir lamp beautifully crafted by the renowned lamp maker Handel.

Brief Handel History:

Philip Handel was an artist who produced art glass lamps in Meriden, Connecticut from 1885 to 1936. He specialized in techniques for decorating glass, creating gas and electric lamps with leaded glass and reverse-painted shades. Handel made his own lamp bases and produced unique scenic interpretations, in addition to floral designs.

Collectors prize Handel lamps for their imaginative scenes and excellent craftsmanship. They are valuable today because they were expensive when they were initially produced in the early 20th century in Meriden, CT. The lamps were marketed directly towards upper-middle-class families through high-end department stores or advertising in popular periodicals. Many Handel lamps are still held by the families of the original owners.
