Here is a fantastic piece of early California golf memorabilia. It is a large sterling silver trophy with the enameled logo of the SAN GABRIEL COUNTRY CLUB and is engraved INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT 1927 / CHAMPIONSHIP FLIGHT WINNER / ALLEN MOSER.
It is 8 1/4” across the top and 4 1/4” tall. The foot is 4” across. The underside is marked with the makers hallmark and SEDLACEK & CO / STERLING / LOS ANGELES/ BASE WEIGHTED.
*******The total weight is 777 grams with a small weighted base********
Knowing the base is weighted, that area appears to be only 3” by 1 3/4”. Kinda like a weighted candlestick…. But there is still plenty of sterling weight. Nice historic sports piece!
The bowl is heavy, hand-hammered and is in outstanding condition with light wear, a few tiny dings and light tarnish. Allen Mosser was an excellent golfer and went to the University of Southern California and was very well know during his time. Perfect museum piece for the antique golf collector that thought they had everything….
