Bring Mediterranean charm to your table with this beautiful covered butter dish by Villeroy & Boch. Made in Germany of high quality porcelain, it is in very good condition.

Part of the Switch 3 collection introduced in 1986 and retired in 2020, the dish features leafy floral elements in soft blue on a white background with blue and green borders. Designed to evoke olive groves and the Mediterranean Sea, it is a beautiful accessory for the maker’s Castell, Cordoba and Costa patterns.

The dish measures 6 3/4” long, 5 1/2” wide, and 2 1/2” tall. It weighs 1 pound 7 ounces and will accommodate about half a pound of butter. The bottom is marked with the company’s abbey logo and reads as follows:

In addition, the numbers V48 and S28 appear on the bottoms of the tray and lid respectively.

This dish is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, stains or crazing. The colors are strong with no fading, and the maker’s mark is crisp and clear. Moderate scratching on the tray (please see photos 17 and 18) and light scratching on the top are the only evidence of gentle use. A small irregularity on the tray’s bottom edge (please see photo 19) is smooth to the touch and appears to be original to the piece.
