STUDIO GLASS CRYSTAL TANKARD
TRAILED DECORATION
AIR TRAP HANDLE

Certainly made in a glass studio (probably in Great Britain) by a crafts person, this crystal tankard is unique. The iregular, trailed decoration, which is applied when the glass is at several hundred degrees centigrade, is so complex that however many might have been made, no two could be the same. Having added the trailed decoration the maker then added the handle which, to further demonstrate their skill, was made with an air trap bubble (see the 5th photo). The pontil scar, where the tankard was held on a solid metal pontil rod after being blown, can be seen in the last photo.

The tankard is 14.4 cm high, has a circumference of 7.7 cm and a capacity of 440 ml. Incidentally, if you choose to use this tankard rather than admire it as a precious ornament, its capacity is 440 ml (the capacity of a standard beer or cider tin).

Happy to answer any questions or provide more photos. It can be collected from Langford in North Somerset.
