This jewelry box belonged to my mother who died 40 years ago, it was old then so I am guessing it is at least 70 years old, probably older. I don't know where it came from, most likely Eastern Europe.
It is good shape, the compartments open out easily. The carving is rather unique, a peasant man and woman and the decoration on the box itself appears to be hand carved.
The wood looks a bit dry but there aren't any splits in it. It may need to be oiled.
