**All five volumes are in the Welsh language.**

Title of Volume 1 translates (via Google Translate) to:

The Old Testament, with Explanatory Notes on Each Verse; Have Been Selected and Translated into Welsh by the Rev, James Hughes, Minister of the Gospel of London; Out of Various Works of the Most Famous Authors; Along with All the Reference Points of the Respect. P. Scott.

Volume I. Treffynnon (Wales): Published by Lloyd and Evans, MDCCCXXXVIII (1838).

James Hughes (1779-1844), editor of the set, was born in Wales. He was a Calvinistic Methodist minister, Bible commentator, frequent contributor to Welsh periodicals, and poet. The publishers, Lloyd and Evans were John Lloyd, and P.M. Evans, printers from Wales.

Volumes 1 & 2 have a previous owner’s name on them (in pencil), on two different front end papers, with two different dates and places: “D. Howell Toledo, Ohio Jan. 23, 1875” and “Daniel Howell Llanbrynmair Montgomery shire Wales 1850.” Daniel Howell was the son of William and Elinor Howell, of Bont, Llanbrynmair, one of twelve children. In January, 1888, he was the chief engineer for the Smith Bridge Company, in Toledo, Ohio.

Each volume has gilt lettering on spine and measures about 4 ½” x 7.” Hardcovers have wear, and some separation, as seen in photos; the front cover of Volume 1 is present but detached. Front & back end papers are tanned from age, with foxing spots, soil spots/stains. No tears or writing to pages; pages have some soil spots/stains, small corner creases. Front & back covers are a bit loose.

Note that I have described the books as best as I can. Look closely at all photos for details and condition as they are also part of the description. Email with any questions.
