Here's another of my latest ghee whiz Tonka Art projects, a Polly Gas Tanker truck. The cab was made from a 1930's Richmond truck. I custom built an aluminum frame, made side tanks using 1" aluminum tubing and freeze plug end caps. Exhaust stacks are also made from aluminum tubing, then polished and wrapped with a trick chrome plated heat shield material. A "heim joint/rod end" was used to make the hitch connector on the truck frame, it swivels into any angle to allow the trailer to shift into any angle. The trailer is an original plastic Tonka gas tanker trailer, but I have dissected out 1" from the width (see 2nd from last photo above, took out top ramp), and I have dissected out 2" of the over-all length (see last photo above), total length of cab and trailer is now 24". The remainder of the trailer pieces was assembled using metal plates and 2-part epoxy. Lots of body filler, and many hours of sanding & painting involved. Then I have installed over $100 worth of brand spanking new Tonka rubber tires, new hub caps, and a trick decal package- - -easy deal.
NOTE: On all my Tonka Art projects I never charge for the $1500 to $2500 labor in each project.
