Brixham Harbour – 1937 

Original Signed and Dated Pencil (Graphite) Drawing

An exceptional competent and exact original pencil drawing depicting Brixham Harbour Cornwall in 1937. The artist I believe was local. I sold an etching by him or her last year which was also very high quality. 

But this drawing easily exceeds the etching in style and impact.  I am not sure if my photographs will do it justice. 

Bowen was without a doubt an extremely skilled draughtsman and meticulous in detailing. Extraordinary that to date I have been unable to unearth a shred of biographical background of who was an exceptional artist.  

The drawing on a thin sheet of white wove measures 30cm x 23cm. It is loose and paper tab hinged from the top and mounted as shown using white thin card. Overall measures 40cm x 29cm and shows an aperture of 26cm x 19cm. It could framed and glazed as it stands if required. 

Signed and dated 1937 lower right. 

Condition is pristine and I use that word carefully. In superb condition – no foxing, tears, damage, marking or creasing. The mount in good condition. A lovely drawing in great condition just under 90 years old.
