Original Signed Framed & Glazed Line & Wash

Portrait of a Young Man with Dedication

A fine pen, ink and wash portrait of a young man. Signed indistinctly in pencil, followed by a date for either 1933 or 1983?   Dedicated in pencil “For David”

Some research required for this in my opinion outstandingly good example of using pen ink and water wash to such good effect.

Shows a framer’s label on the reverse for a Massachusetts based framer.

It shows many similarities to a famous 1857 portrait of Charles Dickens by the Victorian artist Samuel Laurence, and to work by Emerson in America. It needs research.

The work is original on a soft white slightly surfaced faced paper or card. Mounted with modern grey mounting board and shows an aperture of 19cm x 15cm. Framed and glazed with a silver gilt wooden frame measuring 33cm x 28cm x 2cm.

The condition seen through glass looks excellent with no foxing, tears, damage or creasing visible. The mount, glass and frame all in good condition.

My photos are in natural daylight. I do not digitally enhance images. I try to ensure what you see is what you get. There is some reflection from the glass in some of the photos. As glazed regret no overseas mailing.
