Here I have for sale a vintage, 1973 made in Great Britain, Timex divers style 31mm mechanical watch, featuring a bi-directional friction fit bezel and date display.

As you can see from the pictures this timepiece is in excellent condition with some beautiful dial patina through natural ageing.

The watch has undergone a mild restoration and has received the following work:

• Fully stripped down to every single component

• Pre cleaning (bezel hand cleaned not ultrasonic cleaned).

• 4-stage ultrasonic cleaning (movement, case, caseback, crown/stem (cleaner for stage 1, deionized water rinse 1, de-ionized water rinse 2, final alcohol rinse

• Movement reassembly, methodical re-oiling and re-grease, bezel greased.

• Beat error adjustment, hairspring fine adjustments made

• Movement ran for 24-hour before timegrapher regulation

• Final assembly, new caseback gasket

• Acrylic crystal polish

• Caseback mild polish

• New stainless steel mesh bracelet and spring bars

When purchasing a vintage Timex mechanical watch please set your expectations,a moment of this age/type, with a pin and lever, zero jewel movement. This is not a 'fresh out-of-the-box' modern timepiece.

Simple design, old age, zero jewels and general wear and tear to the movement pivots means these movements are not to have high accuracy expected of them.

Running within a minute or two per day is to be considered acceptable due to positional variance from slight wear to pivots and the age of the main spring, etc. the goal of the restoration and service was to bring the timepiece back to a running condition to ensure many years of enjoyment to come. It has been keeping exceptional time in the dial up position since. Timekeeping on the wrist will vary.

Please examine the photographs carefully and any questions please ask 🙂

* Please do not shower or swim in this vintage timepiece. Vintage watches often have little to no water resistance at all. It is best practice to treat your watch as NOT water resistant unless otherwise stated in the description.

WHO ARE WE? We are husband and wife, Jason and Kim, together we are KimSon. ‘LFTR’ pays homage to my (Jason)’s previous work as a Nuclear Engineer. We are passionate watch enthusiasts with a desire to run our business with what we like to think of as an ‘old-fashioned’ approach; we want to build great relationships with our long-term customers, to go that extra mile or more for those who trust us to provide the best service possible, to share our love of watches by breathing life back into even the most affordable timepieces for the next owner to make new memories with.

What does it mean to buy a refurbished watch?

We buy pre-owned or new/old stock watches that are looking a bit sorry for themselves, often left in a drawer after the battery died, or simply forgotten about when someone buys a new watch. We take those watches and breathe life back into them. First and foremost this means stripping the watch down to remove the movement and dial so the following work can be done –

ULTRASONIC CLEANING:  The watch case, case back, bracelet, and stem/crown is thoroughly cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner. Nylon straps are also cleaned this way. More delicate plastic parts will be cleaned by hand.

• BATTERY REPLACEMENT: Battery-powered watches are fitted with a new, premium cell (we use Renata, Panasonic, Rayovac, Murata, and Maxell)

• CRYSTAL POLISH OR REPLACEMENT: Once the watch case has been cleaned the crystal (watch face) can be replaced if it is deemed too scratched or damaged (for both mineral and acrylic mineral glass crystals), or polished if they are acrylic plastic crystals.

• POLISH: Stainless steel cases, case backs, and bracelets may be given a light polish. Cases that are plated cannot be polished due to the risk of removing too much plating. In some cases, we will use a low cut, filler glaze, and wax-based polish to help improve and protect scuffed plating. Bracelets with a brushed finish will be re-brushed after polishing.

• MOVEMENT REPAIR OR REPLACE: if a watch arrives with a faulty movement or module this will either be replaced with a new or reconditioned item, or repaired with either new or used parts (this will always be listed in the listing). If a quartz movement is working fine it will simply be placed back into the watch on reassembly.

Mechanical movements will be inspected for obvious signs of issues and checked on a timegrapher to ensure they are at least fit for sale and operating as they should be.

• GASKETS AND O-RINGS: Upon reassembly the caseback gasket will nearly always be replaced with a new one unless the original is of a special design or still in satisfactory condition. The new or old gasket will be greased with silicone grease to ensure the best water resistance and to protect the seal from mechanical damage when refitting. The winding/setting stem/ crown tube o-ring(s) will be replaced if necessary and re-greased as above. If a watch is fitted with additional pushers these will be removed and the same process is applied.

• FINISHING TOUCHES: The icing on the cake is a new leather, nylon, or steel strap to finish the refurbishment.

**Refurbishment does NOT include major in-depth restoration or servicing of quartz or mechanical movements. Watches that have undergone restoration and/or servicing will be listed as such in the description.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read these lengthy descriptions, but they are there to help you and us have the most trouble-free and enjoyable buyer-seller experience.

Kindest regards,

Jason & Kim, KimSon LFTR Watchmakers
