Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a very nice Astatic 77A model microphone from the 1950's. This was a high quality Dynamic cardioid microphone offered by Astatic and was their answer to the very popular Shure Brothers 55S model mic at the time. This particular unit has been tested and thoroughly cleaned. While this 77A still has 100% of it's original components the element is weaker working and isn't suitable for any live purposes. The signal strength is around 50% or less. This should be used for prop or display purposes only until a replacement element is used.

This would still make an excellent display piece and even make a great candidate for a mic lamp. This 77 has a classic midcentury vibe with aggressive looks and was used by many musicians of that era as the mic had a fantastic sound.

Pic # 2 shows an old data sheet with this very model and it's basic characteristics.

Pic # 3 shows a young Jerry Lee Lewis using the Astatic 77A while performing live in concerts. It was one of his go to model mics for many years.

As you can see there are just lite signs of wear. No dent or engravings, scratches dent nicks. The black silk screen is 100% complete in the front and rear. There are zero rips in the screens too which is always a bonus. The joint mechanism holds strong and the mic head tilts backwards as needed. The thumb screws tighten firmly in place as well. The on / off switch slides smoothly as well. The 77A came with an impedance switch located on the bottom front of the head and it works as it should. The rear Astatic label shows no wear and still present. The front Astatic 77A insignia is still present as well but looks excellent. Everything is tight on this mic.

This Astatic 77 is a solid 8 out of a scale of 1 - 10 on the cosmetic side. The 77 has an elegant, timeless look that set these vintage mics apart from most others of that era and presently. Though several Japanese manufacturers tried to replicate the 77's style they never really made anything as beautiful as Astatic's 77A. The 77A had superior styling and sound over the competition. Really one of the most admired and famous of mics from the 1950's.

This is one of the nicer examples of a 77A out there.

This microphone will screw onto any American desk or floor stand though a stand is provided...

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF SALE...

It's a 80's era microphone desk stand based on the more common Atlas DS-5 model. This is a Chinese model that makes an excellent platform for any heavier mic and the stands thread itself is universal so that any mic or mic clip will technically mate to the top of it.

This particular E.V stand has just lite cosmetic wear as you can see. Some very small scuff marks and scratches. There are no dents or fractures on this stand and the polished chrome stem looks very nice. Please let the detailed pictures be your guide. All 3 original rubber pads are included and in great shape.

Mic stand is appx 4 1/2 inches tall X 6 inches wide. With the mic on top it's appx 12 inches high. The stand is very stable and can be used on small, medium and some larger mics.
