I brought this to Theo Wayne for refacing and after inspection he informed me that the facing was in great original condition and that the finishing work on it was spot on as expected from the craftsmanship of the mouthpiece makers at the Selmer factory during the period this mouthpiece was made. As such no further work was recommended and the mouthpiece table and facing remain in factory condition.

He further remarked that this mouthpiece model was during the period where the mouthpieces were finished with an oval chamber for which I have included some documentation in the last picture. (Not the usual horseshoe chamber of the later production)

This mouthpiece is actually in great physical condition despite the discolouration due to leaving the mouthpiece cap on for an extended period of time without use. Less than five years ago, this mouthpiece was perfectly black, and I was actually surprised to see how fast it discoloured after leaving it in storage for a period of time when I was focussed on tenor.

It’s a really fat and round sounding piece, with just the right amount of crispness. Don’t be fooled by the facing. It actually blows pretty much like a meyer 5 but of course with that core and focus soloist short shanks are known for.
