Blue and white ironstone dinnerware has been collected for many years and the introduction of the Liberty Blue pattern in 1975 by Enoch Wedgwood of England, with its fifteen different historic scenes of colonial America, generated huge interest. Grocery stores such as A&P and Grand Union sold different pieces each week with a minimum in-store grocery purchase. The Liberty Blue promotion coincided with America's Bicentennial celebration in 1976 and by 1977 you could no longer purchase this patriotic tableware.
