ANTIQUE INDIAN BRITISH CEYLON BRASS TEA CADDY CANISTER W/ SILVER & COPPER INLAY

A beautiful 19th century brass tea caddy with ornate scrollwork silver & copper panels and elephant on the lid. Lovely polished patina, cherished by a previous owner, some of the copper has worn away and the silver has oxidized so looks black in places. All handmade with a pattern underneath. Good solid brass, weighs 167g, tight fitting lid but easily removed. Very good overall condition, only has a very minor ding on the side, pls see pic 8, only visible when that area reflects the light. Fabulous golden polished patina underneath, only appreciated in person, very similar patina seen on 18th century brass snuff boxes. Also possibly made in British Ceylon 1796–1948, a similar elephant image is seen on the Ceylon flag & Coat of arms, see last image.

92mm height with lid
73mm widest diameter
