This Holton 48 is in unusually good condition for its age. It plays great with very good valve action and smooth slides. It responds very easily and blows freely with its innovative, reversed tuning slide. This Holton 48 is an easy instrument to play and responds well in all registers. The bore size is ML (.459 inch) and the horn's tone is big, warm and full. The lacquer finish has been professionally redone at some point (not recently) and is still nice looking. There is no red rot or any dents. The 3rd valve slide works smoothly and has a travel stop. The valves all have good compression and work well with standard weight valve oil. The compact Holton case is original and is amazingly good for its age. All latches work good and the handle and case body are solid. The case interior has no odors and is clean. Also included is a very good Holton 65A mouthpiece and the original Holton music lyre.
