Designed at the end of World War II for the US Air Force , the B 47 was a bomber with six medium-range engines. At a time when anti-aircraft missiles did not exist, speed and ceiling were the best guarantee of invulnerability. From 1950 to 1966, it constituted an essential link in American defense. For Boeing, the development of the B-47 had significant civil and military repercussions since the work on the B-47 enabled the development of the Boeing 707 and the B52.
