Lovely blackthorn Shillelagh or walking stick that has been blackened, varnished and beautifully finished entirely by hand. This outstanding stick is superb in every way with lovely colours and markings in the handle that make me think of antique bone or Ivory.Good strong stick that is both thick and heavy throughout its length and yet comes alive in the hand.The kink at the centre point gives this stick a rare balance, pick it up and you will want to swing it. Fitted with a substantial ferrule, just right for walks in the country and would look great in a stick stand or stood in a corner. Half the fun of taking a stick for a walk is being able to wield it like a sword or a club as you swish at the nettles. Measures 40 inches long, just right to lean on or carry under the arm in the traditional way. My sticks are traditionally handcrafted on my knee using only the simplest of tools,a knife,a file, sandpaper and elbow grease.No power tools or shortcuts are used, they are crafted just as they were in days past in old Ireland.I am sure this lovely stick will soon become a trusty old friend and a real talking piece.
