Antique 19th century Italian shell cameo depicting a right-facing Greco-Roman female, with an early Roman hair style.  The cameo is hand-carved (with two colors) from a single piece of shell, and dates from the Victorian era.  It is loose or unset, and has never been mounted.  The background is a slightly orangish-brown or beige color, with the face carved out of the cream-colored shell layer.   Overall dimensions are 20mm length x 15mm width (25mm = 1 inch), so please note that this cameo is on the small side (suitable for a ring, for example, rather than a brooch).  The back is concave, and the cameo is in high relief, following the form of the natural shell it has been hand-carved from.

Condition is excellent--new old stock!  It has never been set in jewelry.
