Pair of Antique African coper manillas. Manillas (meaning brace, etc.) were cast in England and Portugal by the thousands and brought as ballast on empty slave trading ships to Africa where it was used as money to buy slaves and barter, from the 1500s until the end of slavery. They are old and rusty, as collected.

1. Large manilla is a "Queen Manilla", they were produced in Africa and has a nice but worn design and patina. A Queen Manilla was very valuable in barter and bridal currency and was worth 75 manillas or 2 slaves. These are from ca1850-1900.

2. Very old Queen Manilla 8.5" x 4" with flared hammered cuffs. has a shrinkage crack from when it was made and blue-green patina from copper oxidizing because of its age. The smaller Manilla is 3.5" x 3" and was made in Portugal and England in the 1700s-1800s and used as money.

These come with black folding stands
